Since starting my business ten months ago, I have worked hard almost everyday to make it a success. I often work 60+ hours a week doing sales, marketing, shipping, ordering, inventory, etc. Since I love to travel, I set a goal to fund a trip to Greece to see family and friends.
Our adventure began in Athens and now has brought us to Rhodes, an island just off the coast of Turkey, in the Dodecanese. We were excited to visit the Acropolis at Lindos (pictured above). Let me explain that I am seriously afraid of heights, to the point where my palms sweat and I start to feel lightheaded. The boys were anxious to start the climb up and I hung back just a bit, but they noticed and asked if I were going to sit it out. I sensed a little disappointment in them as I started to say I would wait down below but I decided to be bold. What’s the point in declaring you are going to be bold and then being a wimp when it comes down to it?
My youngest made sure I had enough water and we just started walking together. There were winding walkways and donkeys ready to carry up visitors who couldn’t make the climb.
I opted out of a donkey ride (poor things!) and we made our way through narrow paths lined with tourist shops and water stands to a narrow walkway that had me nervous for a bit but I just put my head down and kept walking. Soon enough we had reached the lower walls that offered a beautiful view of the small bay below. Tourists were snapping selfies as I nervously looked around for the next ascent. It was a steep stairway to the top of the walls and temple. And so I climbed, behind small children and senior citizens and together we reached the top.
As I gazed at the temple I realized that I had checked off an item from my bucket list. When I visited Rhodes as a child, I was too afraid to climb to the top. As I neared the left side of the temple, I looked over the edge and what I saw took my breath away! Maybe the Greek gods were rewarding me for being bold!
Stay tuned with more travel pictures and stories from our summer in Greece! Working hard has brought me many rewards, personally, but it has brought us family memories for a lifetime.
